USTA National Open at JTCC this weekend

Championship

The USTA National Open is underway at the Junior Tennis Champions Center.

This marks the tenth consecutive year that JTCC has hosted the National Open.  The event is invite-only and draws the top 32 boys and girls in the 14-and-Under Division and includes both singles and doubles matches.  The National Open is a Level 2 tournament.

The following are results from day one action involving JTCC players:

Boys’ 14 

-No. 1 seed Patrick Kypson, en route to the third round, dropped only two games.  He defeated Magnus Johnson (6-0, 6-1) and Peter Conklin (6-1, 6-0).  Patrick is currently playing the No. 8 seed Aleksandar Kovacevic.

Sebastian Arcila lost in the second round to Aleksandar Kovacevic, 5-7, 1-6.

RJ Fresen lost to Robert S. Maciag in the first round, 1-6, 4-6.

-No. 6 seed Caleb Chakravarthi defeated Kevin Xu (6-0, 7-5) and Sean Patrick (3-6, 6-3, 6-1) to advance to the third round.  He is currently playing Sebastian Mermersky.

Brian Cernoch lost in the second round to Abhijeet Joshi, (1-6, 7-6, 0-6).

Ammar Alhogbani  lost in the second round to No. 4 seed John Speicher, (6-7, 3-6).

-No. 7 seed Andrew Fenty has advanced to the third round and is currently playing fellow JTCC player and No. 2 seed Kyrylo Tsygura.

Girls’ 14

-No. 3 seed Raveena Kingsley will square off with fellow JTCC player Valerie Ho in the third round.

Isabelle Boulais lost only one game as she marched to the third round with victories over Amber O’Dell (6-0, 6-1) and No. 6 seed Courtney Provan (6-0, 6-0).

MacKenzie Clark lost in the first round to Nicole Roc, 5-7, 1-6.
