The Junior Champions program is an after school invitation-only program offered during the school year for players ages 8-12 which also includes after school tutoring. The goal is to develop young players who possess the talent, character, work ethic and desire to progress to JTCC’s Champions Program.
In the Junior Champions program, Director Mira Vlcek introduces players to High Performance Training including proper tennis technique, match play, fitness, and video analysis. All players receive personalized evaluation.
The primary focus of the Junior Champions program training is on stroke production and development in order to establish a strong foundation of technique as early as possible. Players should expect high repetition of drop ball drills along with progressive training techniques and live ball tactics with the Green Dot Ball. Players will then transition to additional fundamentals training, which introduce new concepts along with long-term technical changes. This training will focus on high intensity and high repetition utilizing the Yellow Ball.
Additionally, Coaches attend many local tournaments to evaluate JTCC players in competition.
The Junior Champions program is offered during six weekly sessions as follows:
- Monday – Friday 5:00 – 7:00 pm (maximum of 14 players daily)
- Sunday 11:00 am – 2:00 pm (maximum of 14 players daily)
Each training block includes a fitness session.
Semiannual player reports will be completed, and a parent, player and coach meeting will be scheduled to discuss the player’s progress.
Students enrolled in the Junior Champions program will receive a complimentary week of summer training equivalent to the number of days enrolled per week during the school year. Players who join the program mid-year will receive a proportional number of weeks relative to when they join the program. Any player leaving the JTCC program during the year will not receive free summer training weeks.
