The main draws for the USTA International Spring Championships, a Grade 1 ITF tournament, commenced yesterday in Carson, California.

“This year’s USTA International Spring Championships should be another exciting event,” said tournament director John Lansville. “There are a number of strong competitors, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of upsets.”

The following are results from opening round action that involved JTCC players:

Boys 18 Singles First Round

-No. 1 seed Noah Rubin, a semi-finalist last year, defeated Shane Monroe (JTCC), 6-2, 6-2.
-A.J. Catanzariti (JTCC) defeated wildcard entry Robbie Bellamy, 7-5, 6-1.
-Logan Smith upset No. 5 seed Lucas Corinteli (JTCC), 0-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(2)
-No. 14 seed Francis Tiafoe (JTCC) (pictured above) defeated wildcard entry Walker Duncan, 7-6(6), 7-5
-Alex Rybakov defeated Jordi Arconada (JTCC), 6-0, 6-2.

Scheduled Boys 18 Singles First Round Matchup

-Thomas Mayronne (JTCC) v. Javier Restrepo

Boys 16 Singles First Round

-Evan Zhu (JTCC) defeated wildcard entry Gianni Ross, 6-4, 6-1.
-No. 9 seed Brian Tsao (JTCC) earned a first-round bye

Girls 18 Singles First Round

-Johnnise Renaud defeated Raveena Kingsley (JTCC), 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(1)

Scheduled Girls 18 Singles First Round Matchup

-No. 10 seed Usue Arconada (JTCC) will take on wildcard entry Michaela Gordon

Girls 16 Singles First Round

-No. 2 seed Jada Robinson (JTCC) earned a first-round bye and will take on Sarah Hu in the second round.
