NEW YORK, NY – APRIL 15, 2013 – The Tennis Center at College Park has been selected as one of four sites to host the Super Regional Playoffs of the 2013 National Family Tennis Championships.   The tournament, which will bring together the best family tennis teams from the East Region, is scheduled for August 2-4, 2013.  The other three host sites are: The Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City (July 26-28); The Copeland-Cox Mobile (AL) Tennis Center (Aug. 2-4); and El Dorado Park Tennis Center in Long Beach, CA (Aug 2-4).

The top teams in each division of play at the four Super Regional Playoffs will then earn a complimentary trip to New York City for the right to play for a national title from August 22-26, 2013.   Teams will receive travel, hotel accommodations as well as tickets to see the best in the game play at the USTA/Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.  For more information, visit www.FamilyTennis.com.

The Tennis Center at College Park is located just 11-miles from downtown Washington, DC and 40-minutes from Baltimore.  The 30-court private facility offers indoor and outdoor courts including hard and red and green clay courts.  The USTA’s first Regional Training Center also hosts some of tennis’ premier events including the USTA National Open, a US Open Sectional Qualifier, IFT pre-US Open junior event and the home court of the University of Maryland Lady Terrapins.

“We are pleased to be a part of the National Family Tennis Championships and offer tennis players of all ages a fun and competitive tournament to experience with their family members,” said Ajay Pant, General Manager at the Tennis Center at College Park.  “As the host location for the Eastern Regional Playoff we can promise our guests a great facility, competitive tennis and a fantastic summer tennis vacation.”

Host sites will be conducting local tournaments from April through June 30, for up to six divisions of play including; Husband/Wife, Brother/Sister, Father/Son, Father/Daughter, Mother/Son and Mother/Daughter.  Host sites are encouraged to offer at least three of the six divisions.  Players of all levels compete in the same division with the only limitations being a son or daughter must be under the age of 18 and a father or mother is required to be the minor’s legal guardian.

Each local host site receives a free tournament kit with everything they need to promote and run the event including; counter cards, promotional posters, NFTC banners, player premiums, tennis balls, plus winner and runner-up awards for each division.  In addition, they receive a percentage of every team entry fee and the chance for their winners to advance to one of four Super Regional Playoffs.   A map of the four regions is available at www.familytennis.com.

“This was a phenomenal event,” said Brad Goodman, who teamed with his son Benjamin to capture the Father/Son title in the 2012 NFTC pilot program.  “It was great to play tennis with my family and meet other families with a similar passion for tennis.  I have competed in numerous events, but this was undoubtedly the best tournament that I have had the good fortune to participate in and a weekend our family will remember forever.”

The 2013 National Family Tennis Championships is being produced by Oasis Sports Ventures/Family Tennis LLC.  Promotional support is provided by Tennis.com, Tennis15-30 and the USTA.   For more information, visit www.familytennis.com.
