My Life of Tennis

Apr 29, 2013

The following essay was written by a 9-year-old student in our Junior Champions program:

It all started when I was three.  My brothers were going out to play tennis and I wanted to join them.  As soon as my dad fed me the ball I knew I was in love with the game of tennis.

Ever since I was three I loved to play tennis.  I would always hit with my dad in his spare time.

When I was six I had a tryout to go to College Park.  The coach’s name was Coach Ellen.  She said I had a lot of talent.  I was able to go to summer camp.  When summer camp was over, I started hitting with my dad a lot.  In that same year, I had a tryout to go to Watkins Park.  After hitting there a lot, I was able to go to another tryout in College Park.

In that year College Park wanted me to play for their team tennis.  My team is going to the districts in July.  So far I have had three scholarships, am in the Junior Champions Program at College Park and am ranked 22 in the state.

I also help little kids learn to play tennis which helps reinforce my basic skills.

Tennis has helped me learn a lot.  It has given me better hand-eye coordination, it’s taught me to work hard and keep practicing, even when I wanted to quit.  I am grateful for all the people who have helped me throughout my life.  This is my life of tennis.
