On Monday, January 15, JTCC honored the Martin Luther King Day holiday with a Day of Service activity. This Day of Service event is an annual JTCC tradition, one in which we come together in tribute to the memory of Dr. King and perform community service activities, as millions of others will be doing all over the country in his honor.
JTCC partnered with the Central Kenilworth Avenue Revitalization CDC (CKAR), a service-oriented clearinghouse in Riverdale, who helped put us together with meaningful volunteer opportunities in our community. Almost 20 members of the JTCC community participated, including players, teachers and staff.
Our project supported Community Forklift, a non-profit engaged in green salvage and re-use building materials for the community. Our group was on-site at Community Forklift for several hours, sorting vintage hardware and donated lighting fixtures, as well as cleaning household items for resale and sprucing up the grounds of the site. The work was cold but rewarding – a good team-building event, and a reminder of the importance of giving back to our community.
