Earlier this morning, Denis Kudla defeated fellow qualifier Marsel Ilhan in a first round match in four sets, 7-6(3), 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
Kudla became the first American male to advance to the second round of the Wimbledon Championships. Sam Querrey also notched a first round victory later in the day.
Kudla will face off against No. 10 Kei Nishikori on Thursday. Nishikori scrapped by Kenny de Schepper in three sets, 6-4, 7-6(5), 7-5.
